Long overdue update
Saturday June 20, 2009 2:47PM
wow, been almost a month since i posted anything on here. for a couple weeks there wasn't much to reports...i entered races and dropped out a bunch.

but then last weekend i went up to minnesota with derek and schnee for the nature valley grand prix stuff. last year i won the crit in mankato and had a decent result at the hilly stillwater crit even though i crashed in the final corner.

well, mankato started out pretty good. i just sat in for a while, was a small field of about 40 or 50 cat 2/3 guys. about halfway through the race derek is near me and motioned to me that he was going to move up. so he takes me to the front, and we sit in the top 5 for a few corners and then i attacked with derek on my wheel.

the field let us get a gap but it never was more than 15 seconds. i was kind of worried because there was still 20 minutes left till the finish but it worked out perfectly since it was me and derek...we both train with each other so there wasn't going to be and cat/mouse games.

ended up derek taking the win, and me with 2nd...the pack started the shut the break down in the last few laps...at the finish line, 3rd place was within 5 seconds so it was a pretty painful last lap trying to not get caught at the line.

sunday was the hillly stillwater crit...by far the most difficult course i have ever raced. if you're not going up a hill, your bombing down hill going well over 30 in the corners...somewhere we maxed out at just over 40 mph

well, rolled up to the start of the race and everyone apparently had been standing there for like 10 minutes...guys have been doing that lately...lining up stupid early just to get that front row spot...that's what happened down in tulsa, but was even worse because the pro women were still racing and these stupid men were lining up...horrible sportsmanship

so yea, started the race on the last line for about 50 or 60 guys. since the start is immediately into two hills, it wasn't too bad trying to move up to the front. was within the top 10 after the first lap.

*i should note that the start is at the bottom of the hill, and the finish is at the top of the hill

me and derek made it into the lead group of about 13 of us. guys were kind of timid this year so not a lot of attacking out of our group.

going into the last lap, derek took the front to try to lead me out. coming around the final corner was him, some dude, and then me....as i just noted, start at the bottom of the hill, finish at the top..."some dude" decided to sprint for the start line at the bottom of the hill and throw his arms in the air in victory...so that was kind of funny...

(that's will at the top of the hill starting his last lap...at the bottom you can see "some dude" with arms raised like a retard)

i then started to sprint for the top of the hill but my stupid front derailer wouldn't shift down so i was grinding the first half of the hill when the derailer finally down shifted...this guy from minnesota was able to get around me but i held on for second.

i'll take that...couldn't quite seem to get the win over the weekend, but i'm happy with the two 2nd places.

and then last night was this new crit in state center, iowa at the rose festival. it was a pretty aggressive race with attacks going off all the time but nothing seemed to stick. with 3 laps to go i hit the front and had andrew on my wheel with will right behind him. then with half a lap to go, andrew took will to the last corner and he sprinted for the WIN!!!!!!!

it was sweet...definitely a team effort for that win...reminded me of last year leading out andrew for the win at the state crit.

well, i'm all moved out of ames now. started my internship orientation last week in ames. this monday i'll be in iowa city for a week for some seminars there. then june 30th or so i'll move down to burlington finally. i'm excited to start this internship. it's going to be real intense...40 hours a week at the hospital and then course work at night...the instructors say we will be doing 50-60 hours/week with everything...ugh!

tomorrow is the hummer hammer crit here in davenport. should be funn racing with the air show going on right by the course.

Finchford Roubaix
Thursday May 14, 2009 12:13AM
Well, it's official...i'm finally graduated from college...iowa state university says i'm educated!

friday night did the whole walk across the stage thing, then saturday morning drove over to the cedarfalls area for the finchford roubaix race. sucked though cuz i had a little extra pressure on me to do well this race because my grandma was there...i have to call her after every race otherwise she's worried that i'm broken into pieces in a ditch somewhere :)

so yea, b2u/wob had a crew there...will-i-am started the race out retarded fast so there wasn't really a warm up. followed wheels for a while, and start of the 3rd lap or so sean went on the attack and then i countered it with clark priebe coming with. we worked together and after a short while jarod from All 9 yards and Paul from Zoom came up to us and we started rotating and that was pretty much the group to the end...untill...

out of NO WHERE with about 8 miles left in the race, sean bridges up to our group SOLO...he immediately stuck his tongue out at the other 3 guys and i got a giant grin on my face :)

the other 3 guys obviously started attacking right away, and after a few attacks i went on the attack and again, only clark came with me...i've ridden with clark a bunch up in webster with the beav last summer so that was cool. we stuck our gap but with about a mile to go clark just rides away from me...wasn't like he attacked, he just started pushing the pace and i had nothing left....luckily i wasn't caught by the jarod/paul/sean behind me!

oh well, i can't be too disappointed, 2nd place to clark is definitely not a bad thing...and my grandma said she got goosebumps when i crossed the line so i guess i did something right :) and then sean took 4 place...definitely a good showing for B2U/WOB!!!

my dad took a ton of pictures of the cat 1/2 race and also the cat 3 race..which my buddy derek won by the way!!!!

well, now i'm back in ames. pretty sweet month i got lined up before the intership starts...ride bikes during the day, cook at the restaurant at night, drink with friends till 3am, then repeat the next day

wonder if beav will come have a sleep over with me this summer?????

GRADUATION!!!!!!!!!!!
Friday May 08, 2009 12:40PM
In about 3 hours i'll officially be a college graduate...crazy!

yesterday was my last final and then me, derek and pat davis went down to elkart again for a little TT action. derek set a blazing fast time with his new carbon wheels...think he got below 16 minutes this time. i did it eddy merckx category and think got below 17 minutes

then we came back to ames because all the dietetics girls rented a party bus! me and derek did a little pre gaming over at Thumbs for gin n tonic night then met all the girls for the party bus down to des moines to hit the bars...

things got a little out of control on the bus...

well a-cup, momma/poppa/gma titties are gonna be here in a bit so i need to get cleaned up and ready to walk across the stage

Iowa City Weekend
Tuesday April 28, 2009 8:03AM
Went to Iowa city to do the big race weekend over there. saturday was a 65 mile road race, and sunday was a crit on the u of iowa campus. usually the road race is stupid windy and this year they were calling for a ton of rain...but somehow neither ended up happening which was nice.

it would mark my first big race with the p/1/2 field so i was pretty nervous going into it not expecting much especially since there were some pretty big teams there too.

it was a fairly uneventful race on saturday. people tried to get into breaks all the time but nothing ever seemed to stick. i tried to get into something that looked promising around halfway through the race but again, it ended up getting shot down even though most of the teams were represented.

on the last lap for some stupid reason i attacked. i dont know what was going on in my head, it was a move that probably shouldn't have done anything but waste my energy. but the next thing i know, i look under my shoulder and here come brian jensen with a few riders in tow (jarod osterloh from des moines, neninger from ICCC, and a guy from iscorp). i about died trying to latch on, but ended up doing it, and our group of 5 started working together. after a couple miles we were pretty much gone.

we turned on the final straight to the finish line (maybe about 6 or 7 miles to go) and my legs immediately start cramping up...we came around the women's field and i thought that i would prolly have to get a ride in with their wheel car, but i ended up getting back on with the little group. however, i couldn't take anymore pulls and so was pretty much set with taking 5th.

oh well, i can't be too discouraged about 5th in my first p/1/2 race especially in a field that had some really strong guys. jensen ended up attacking with about 2 miles to go (but not before pouring out his excess water...as if the weight reduction was really necessary for him to win)...only jarod could cover his move so he took 2nd.

then sunday was horrible for me...i just position myself stupid in the pack and get gapped at the back and ended up getting shelled. oh well, the rest of the team did really well. sean got into a group of 8 or 9 guys early on, and wound up getting 5th, and andrew came in 14th. so all in all, a really good weekend for Bikes 2 You/World of Bikes.

this coming weekend, me tator and maybe lee are doing a road race on saturday and a crit on sunday over in wisconsin. then there are only 3 finals standing between me and graduation.

one week from thursday and i am FINISHED!!!!!!!!!

wonder if beav will do underwater diving with me to increase the parasympathetic nerves to the heart due to the mamalian dive reflex?????

Burlington, Here I Come!
Monday April 20, 2009 1:43PM
So last night was the culmanating event of my entire time as a dietetics major...internship announcements

got back from the nebraska races last night around 9 and immediately me and derek started drinkin...figured it was the only way to do it...either keep drinking because you get an internship, or keep drinking to drown out the sorrow.

so at midnight i was ready to go...but the internet announcment system crashes because of every dietetic student in the nation trying to log on at once to find out...so we had to keep drinking until 1am when i finally found out...

i got placed here at iowa state university!!!!!!!! it was such a relief off my shoulders to know that in 6 months i'll be done with my internship and be able to do something with my degree.

so this morning i went to campus and talked with the internship lady, and she said i would be heading to burlington july 1st to begin my internship at the Great River Medical Center. after searching their website i think i figured out why they asked me to go to burlington...they have a sports/fitness program at the hospital and i'm thinking they're going to give me experience doing sports nutrition!!!

i'm pretty excited!

oh and as i mentioned earlier, this weekend i went to nebraska to race collegiate for ISU...and we swept the results!!!!!!!!

saturday was an hour long crit and me and my 2 teammates (schnee and derek) attacked throughout the race, and in the end set up a lead out for derek to take the win.

then sunday morning was an 8.8 mile TTT. not only did we win the collegiate category, we also set the fastest time of the day even for the USCF teams!!!

then sunday afternoon was our final crit...we again were aggressive, attacked, and landed me into a break and some how i found some sprinting legs and was able to get the win for ISU again!

well would you look at that, i even tried a lame attempt at a bike throw

the end is in sight!
Tuesday March 31, 2009 8:45PM
38 days until my last day of college...20 days until i find out about the internships

im thinking with only 38 days left...thats near impossible to fail out of college at this point

this past weekend was sposed to be kent park, but snow cancelled that...so instead went down to grinnel and road with sean and austin...about 2/3 into the ride i officially bonked...then i started to think, i literally forgot to eat the night before. i was at work, which usually isn't a problem, but it was real busy and i just didn't have time to eat at all that night...oops. as sean and austin put it, "you're a nutrition student, aren't you sposed to know about these things????"

this friday i'm traveling down to kansas state university with the cycling club here at school. derek and schnee (two of the guys i road with down in texas) are going too so it should be a good time

the new b2u/wob uniforms came in last week too...we switched up the colors and threw some navy blue in there this year...the idea is that the dark blue will hide some of the beer belly and cottage cheese that hansen is packin on his hips

well i need to go finish up a fact sheet on chickens...wow, i'm giddy with inticipation just thinking about it!

wonder if hansen will come spend easter at casa de titties?
